This spring several of our club members entered their photos in the Arizona Camera Club Council Spring Round-up. The ACCC exists to promote the enjoyment of photographyand to encourage advancement of its members in the knowledge of photography, through membership in local camera clubs in the State of Arizona. Saddlebrooke Photography Club is one of those “local clubs” and as such we are members. ACCC hosts two competitions each year with certified judging of the entries. The competition is divided into:
2 Divisions Print and Projected and then further into:
5 Categories Open, Nature, Monochrome, Creative and Rotating
Further details and guidelines can be found here.
At first glance, this process may seem overwhelming and intimidating. But, Saddlebrooke Photography Club members are lucky to have great support and mentors that will help everyone work through this process. Why is it important to enter these competitions? In this article on the Digital Photography School, a website I love for photography help and inspiration, gives several reasons for entering photo competitions:
- Gives Direction to your shooting
- Pushes you out of your Comfort Zone
- Focuses you on making the Perfect Shot
- Be Inspired by other entries
- Gain Validation
- Receive Feedback
In addition, you gain great experience in process of preparing your photos for competition. Things like selection, printing, mounting, and transporting. As we mentioned before, our Club offers step by step mentoring for this whole process.
